The One Book You Have To Read in 2018

I’m sure by now if you’re a bibliophile you’ve got your reading list altogether, but I wanted to petition to add one more book to the list. This book is currently changing my life, it is one of the best books I have read in my entire life, and I think it’s definitely worth picking up. 

I’m going to get pretty personal in this post, because this book relates to some of the medical diagnoses I’ve recently obtained. If you are going through issues similar to mine, I would love it if you commented with your story below. I know how hard it can be, and I want you to know that I am here with you. 

So, what are we waiting for? This book is a game-changer and I’m excited to finally share it with you: 


A Little Backstory

Before we get into the book, I have to go into why I chose to pick this book up in the first place. If you didn’t already know, I have been diagnosed with PCOS and IBS.

It all started in the fall of 2016.  The new semester was stressful and my body was starting to feel its effects. I was exhausted, to the point where I could barely even wake up in the morning. Then, after September, I didn’t get my period for three months. By the time cold and flu season got around, I got multiple colds and I felt like I was generally breaking down.

This went on for some time, into spring semester even, and I tried to ignore it, thinking it was just stress. But I kept having irregular periods, I was constantly exhausted and burnt out, and I generally felt off. 


In the summer things started to look up, but I still felt off. Fall of 2017 didn’t go well, and I was in debilitating amounts of pain. Finally, this past October I got some answers when I was diagnosed with PCOS and then about a month ago, IBS. It has been a painful six months, but I’m finally in treatment and I know what’s going on with my body. 

I’m still in pain the majority of the time, although I think I am making progress, and I owe a lot of it to this book. 


The Book

I know you all have been waiting for it, the book is called Woman Code and it’s written by Alisa Vitti. Alisa Vitti was in a similar boat as I was, being diagnosed with PCOS in college. She decided to take her health into her own hands and treat her symptoms naturally. Through her own experience, as well as years of work with hundreds of women, she developed a protocol.

Although PCOS is not curable, symptoms can be put in remission and hormones can be balanced through her five-step protocol. So, backpedaling a bit, I heard about the book a while back when Lee From America was talking about her PCOS journey. By then I was already suspecting that I might have the condition, and when I was finally diagnosed, I knew exactly where to turn. 


I picked this book up almost immediately, and I treated it as if it were my bible. Over the past two months I’ve been implementing her protocol and using her nutrition plan to get my hormones back in balance. It will take some time to get to a place where I feel back in tip top shape, but I have noticed a shift in my body.  

One of the best things this book has given me is hope. Often, people diagnosed with PCOS are told that it is a lifelong condition and that there’s only so much they can do with their symptoms. But WomanCode helps put it into perspective. Through lifestyle and especially diet changes, you can restore your body to a healthy place.

I am confident that I will feel better, but I know it will take time. If you struggle with PCOS, PMS, Endometriosis, Fibroids, painful periods, hormonal acne or any condition related to the endocrine system, I highly recommend picking this book up.
